Tribute to early cinema and Oscar-winner Marie Dressler
Join the Film Heritage Academy at History House for a screening of the early-sound classic Min and Bill (1930).
This delightful early-sound comic melodrama, featuring one of early Hollywood’s great romantic teams, award-winning stars Marie Dressler and Wallace Beery, was a huge box-office success. Frances Marion, a multiple Oscar-winning writer, powers the tale with her astonishing talents.
The crusty Min, who runs a seedy waterfront hotel with the assistance of the old sea salt, Bill, navigates the challenges of raising an abandoned young child. Audiences then and now are drawn to the timeless warmth, humour, and grief of a simple comic tale with such emotional depth. Dressler deservedly won the Best Actress Oscar for her performance.
The film will be introduced by Ursula Dubosarsky AM, acclaimed Australian prize-winning author of books for children and young adults.
