An evening to celebrate the new roof and look ahead to the new lift
Members, donors and supporters gathered at History House on 16 June 2026, in person and online, to mark the completion of the new copper roof.
RAHS President Carol Liston AO opened the evening by reminding everyone why this roof mattered so much. Without it, History House faced a real risk of water damage, the kind that could have put the library, the collections, and the heritage fabric of the building in danger.
Then came the fun part: drone footage of the finished roof, shown for the first time by Hector Abrahams Architects, giving everyone a view of History House rarely seen. Hector Abrahams, Stephanie Thelin and Brianna Jessup talked through the thinking behind the work, how they’d weatherproofed the building and made it more durable while keeping its original character intact, and then took questions from members curious about what had gone into the project and what’s coming next.
There was also time to say a proper thank you to our members, donors and supporters, to the architects, consultants and contractors, and to the NSW Government’s Caring for State Heritage Program, whose backing made this work possible.
With the roof now done, the focus shifts to what’s next: a new internal lift, which will make History House easier to get around for members, researchers, visitors, and tenants.
