Our latest addition to the RAHS Flickr Channel is an album donated by Mr Ron Whitmore in 2015. These photos, probably dating to the late 1930s, record a trip to the Illawarra and South Coast of NSW that included Northern Wollongong, Shellharbour, Kiama, Seven Mile Beach and Jervis Bay.
The unknown photographer most likely made the trip by car, which sets this album apart from many of the holiday albums that have been donated to the RAHS.
Another interesting aspect of this collection is the number of photos of guesthouses, hotels and other accommodation that it contains. These will interest local historians.
Most intriguing of all are the photos taken at Jervis Bay where HMAS Cresswell is located today. These grounds housed the Royal Australian Naval College from 1916 until 1930 and were then leased as tourist accommodation until HMAS Cresswell was commissioned in the late 1950s.
