The Making of Martin SparrowPeter Cochrane is best known as an Australian historian but he has recently made the transition to successful novelist with his novel The Making of Martin Sparrow (Penguin 2018). Peter will discuss the life and times of Martin Sparrow, how he came to write the book and history’s part in the exercise.

About the speaker:

Peter Cochrane is a widely published historian and writer based in Sydney. He is best known for his book Colonial Ambition: Foundations of Australian Democracy, which won the Age Book of the Year in 2007. His most recent work of non-fiction is Best We Forget: The War for White Australia, 1914-18 (Text Publishing, 2018). His first venture into fiction was the novella Governor Bligh and the Short Man. He is a Fellow of the Australian Academy of the Humanities.
