Supporting History in the
Community
Affiliated Societies Programme

The RAHS provides support services to over 360 local and special
interest societies throughout NSW. This support includes
- advice from the Manager - Outreach Programmes by phone or
field trip
- Public Liability and Personal Accident Voluntary Workers
insurance schemes
- publications such as the Technical Information Service
Bulletins
- workshops on management, research and education
activities
- an annual conference
- the administration of small grant schemes on behalf of the NSW
Ministry for the Arts and the Heritage Office of NSW
The programme of activities is co-ordinated through the Affiliated
Societies Committee which is composed of
- a chair person nominated by the Council of the RAHS
- two members nominated by historical societies within the
County of Cumberland
- two members nominated by historical societies outside the
County of Cumberland
- a councillor of the RAHS
- a nominee of the Council of the RAHS
The committee is supported by technical advisers covering
Aboriginal history and the NSW History curricula and the Manager -
Outreach Services.
In 2003-2004 the Affiliated Societies Committee membership is:

of Sydney), Robert Hutchinson (Marrickville)
- Beyond Cumberland representatives: Eric Richardson (Manning
Valley), Leonie Knapman (Berrima)
- Observer: Associate Professor Carol Liston (RAHS Council)
- Technical advisers: Helen Bersten (Religious and Fraternal
Societies), Alan Richardson (Education)
